The Godfrey Memorial Library is always looking for people interested
in contributing their time and talents to a variety of ongoing projects. Some
projects require the regular commitment of time, and some projects only
occur on an irregular basis. Volunteers can commit to a regular time or day
each week, or just pop in spontaneously when time permits.
There are always things to do, such as:
|
Docents
We would love to have more volunteers who can help us help patrons
who are new to our library. All this entails is giving tours of the library, or possibly
helping patrons log on to the computers. We will train anyone interested.
|
Landscaping
The landscaping around the building of Godfrey Memorial Library is
completely done by volunteers. Volunteers are needed who can work
independently during the spring, summer, and fall months. Hours are the
same as library hours-weekdays 9-4, and possibly Saturday mornings. Tasks
include, but are not limited to planting, weeding, mulching, etc.

Digitizing Content for Scholar Plus
We are continually adding content to Scholar Plus, our online research tool,
providing unique information for our patrons. Volunteers help us transcribe handwritten information from donated materials so it can be searched online. Others scan materials to be uploaded to Scholar Plus.
Basic PC and typing skills are necessary as well as beginning level knowledge of Excel. We
will train volunteers in specific procedures.

Cemetery Project |
We are looking for people who are serious about devoting time
to help us build our database of Connecticut Cemeteries and
their inscriptions.
Needed are photographers who can go to the cemeteries
to photograph the stones and gather the transcriptions. We then
need people who can work with Excel files to enter all the transcription information for our database.
If you are outside of Connecticut and would like to try this in your
own state, please feel free to contact us about how to proceed.
We would be happy to work with you.
Volunteers are welcome any
time and for any number of available hours. All training will be provided by
the library staff or other volunteers.
If you are interested being a
volunteer please call the library at (860) 346-4375.
